Astrid - Ghostory

Ghost Story is about being haunted by your past self and how it will never truly die for as long as you're alive, it's a part of you, regardless of how much you've changed; it will always be your story. your memories, your experiences can never be changed.

Written and produced by Astrid, mixed by Alex L’Estrange

Jackson - Madness

The idea of the song came after I wrote some simple guitar chords. I wanted a heavy rock song with psychedelic lyrics, about what goes through your head when you’re losing touch with the things around you, and what happens when you fall in love during this process.

I was looking for a really grungy sound, heavy guitar and very distorted. Big crashes etc. I’ve learned to keep it simple, this really helps so i dont over do my songs.
I really like this song as it's very catchy and the style is pretty awesome.

Tynin - My escape

The Ideas for this song came from when I was in drug and alcohol rehab. It came from my experience with drugs and how hard quitting can be. Drug use has a big stigma and I was trying to bring to light the conversation about drugs. I wanted to talk about how you can lose your sense of normality and how you can enter a different world. Your priorities can change.

I had a specific sound in mind and we worked together until we could achieve that. It was hard to know how to put the feelings and life experience into words and capture the emotion so I took a step back, closed my eyes and went back through my own experiences. When I did that, certain words came to mind and that helped with the process.

It’s a lot for me to hear every time I listen to it as it was a big personal experience. I feel proud when I hear it and feel that having gone through the process. I hope my experiences can help others.

Blindo - Meds

I’ve been writing for years, because I can't stand up for myself, and I put my thoughts down on paper instead. All the stress I went through, people never knew me so I just had to get it out on paper. Medicine, everyday life and pain. Me carving into reality. Words cannot be pain. Sometimes I’m surprised about what I have written.

I’m trying to communicate another way to see if your mind is blind. When your brain isn’t working and you hate meds, its hard to overcome all the problems. I feel that I haven't been able to communicate effectively, about who I am, how I feel and my past pains. The song has helped me communicate this.

Rose - Cenabaum

The idea for the song was the synthesis of reading archaeology books about Britain and specifically Scotland, and joking about the pronunciation of New Orleans vs. Orléans. This led to me reading about Orléans and learning the history of the location and the name, in which the Romans massacred the settlement of Cenabaum, sparking the Gallic Revolt. The city was later rebuilt by the Roman emperor Aurelian, and he renamed it civitas Aurelianorum after himself, which is where its modern name is derived from.

Primed from reading about the plight of the British under Roman colonialism, and the later adoption of that colonialism by the English, this series of events which led to the complete loss of the Gaulish language, much of their culture and religion, on top of countless lives struck a chord with me and I decided on the theme.
I had been loosely working on an arrangement at the same time, some strings with large slides on long, bowed notes, that very much fit the idea of a people on the brink of a massacre, and the further injustices it would trigger.
I wanted to really nail the emotional sense of foreboding and despair, having put up your best resistance to an imperialist aggressor, only for it to mean nothing as a swarm of soldiers so large that victory is impossible, march against your home. To build on that idea, I used lots of dissonant notes in chords that would add to the tension by resonating with the harmonies for a particularly discordant and uneasy sound.

Too many people glorify the Roman Empire as a stabilising force and peacekeeper, particularly citing the Pax Romana, 200 years of "Roman Peace". This was an era of prosperity, stability, peace and order, but only for the interior of the Roman Empire. The people subjected to Roman rule most certainly didn't think of it as such, and neither did those fighting the encroaching Roman Empire as they expanded steadily and surely.

As with any imperialist, colonising power, no peace exists for the conquered peoples subjected to foreign rule.
Rome is also justified as righteous by virtue of advanced military technology, a sentiment that still echoes today in the waning Commonwealth and the last remnants of European colonialism. People who haven't spent centuries conquering those around them, and thus never refined the technology required to do so, be it strategy and metallurgy or the advent of cannons and guns, have just as much of a right to exist as anyone else, and that shouldn't still be such a controversial idea after almost 3000 years.

Etuarte - Time

My ideas came to me when I started singing lyrics over 2 chords. The idea for the lyrics was to sing about the most natural thing that worked with the chords. I spent time elaborating the lyrics to make a full song.

I was trying to communicate the importance of appreciating each other through hard times and good times, with the emphasis on time.

The song changed drastically from originally being just a guitar and voice. It became a different type of song with the final arrangement. I feel that I like the song for a first go.
